"...And I'm _____ _____ with 89.7 Starmix Radio! We have a new hit from the newest hot trio Dirty Alliance, here's 'Five Minutes to Gone'" You qued up the music and let the track play. Moving one headphone off your ear and switching off the microphone, you rested your head against the desk in front of you.

"Hey, you okay?" you hear the recording studio door open and shut and Alfred's voice. He set a coke down beside you and kissed your cheek. Taking a sip of soda you say,

"Thanks babe. I'm fine, just a late night."Alfred sputtered,

"W-What!? You had a party and didn't invite me!!?? How could you?!?"

"No you idiot, I was just up thinking last night."

"You think enough for everyone who doesn't in this city, and besides I'm not an idiot!!"

"Yes you are, it's just your my idiot."

"That's true. Hey, the track is almost over, go speak to this crazy city babe!" Alfred left the recording studio to go check the sound levels on the mic. and headphones. You slip the headphone back on and switch the mic back on.

"And that was 'Five Minutes to Gone' by Dirty Alliance. Today's forecast is 85 with humidity, it's gonna be a hot one in this city of Hollywood! There was a reported Romma Empira sighting near Beverly Hills yesterday. The indecent actually brought a stampede of fans down a city block causing three people to get injured. Personally I think Romma Empira should come out of hiding and see his fans then we wouldn't have these problems..."

~later~

You stepped out of the booth a few hours later disheveled and tired. you wouldn't think it but being a radio hostess was tiring, you had to fill empty static silence for hours on end never knowing who was hearing you and what they thought back. You high-fived the midnight hostess who was entering the booth. Alfred came up and hugged you from behind.

"Hey babe." you said. The midnight hostess squealed a little.

"You two are sooo cute! I mean a radio hostess and her sound techy!! It's movie-esque"

"Um thanks." you say a bit embarrassed. She entered the booth and the next shift of midnight workers came in.

"I'll drive you home k?" Alfred said swinging his keys around his finger.

"Kay." you said following him to his car.

~

The ride home was quiet but not tense. That was one of the things you loved about Alfred, he didn't make silences awkward. He knew when you needed silence.

"It's getting harder." you whisper.

"What is?" he asks still looking at the road.

"Being the radio persona. I'm so tired of talking to empty air. Trying to fill the silence, the void."

"If you don't like it why do you do it?"

"It's not like I hate it. I dunno it's complicated." He pulled up to your apartment complex and you swiftly kissed him goodnight. You walked up to your apartment and slouched into a chair. God, why didyou do it every day? You'd been thinking about it and, really, your passion was gone. You moved to your computer and turned it on. After it started up you opened a document.

"Tomorrow, I'll tell everyone tomorrow then on Saturday I'll..." you printed the document.

~

"Sir, this is my official letter of resignation." your boss spluttered,

"B-b-b-but why?!?"

"I cannot continue doing something that I have no passion for. It's eating me alive, Sir. Today will be my last broadcast." You left the room.

"Hello listeners, I'm really glad you're all listening today. Today's a very special and important broadcast for me." You glanced out the plexi-glass window to the soundboard and computer bank. Everyone was listening now. Alfred looked slightly worried, his brow furrowed a little.

"You see, today is my last broadcast." you paused for a moment, "I realized recently that I'm not really happy. I've lost the love I had for what I do here. I don't know what I'm going to do next and I don't know who will remember my voice when I'm off air. But I feel I need to do this..." just then Alfred burst into the recording studio.

"Don't! Common ____ you have your entire career ahead! Don't throw it all away!"

"Alfred, I have to do this! You said it yourself, why should I do it if I don't like it? No one should have to slave away doing something they don't like! If you submit to that its as bad as being a dog forced to do tricks."

"But Babe... I don't want you to leave..."

"I-I'm sorry." you whisper, tears in your eyes. It was then that one of the co-producers ran in and grabbed the mic on the table that had caught everything.

"Sorry folks, we'll be back after a short commercial break."

You fell into Alfred's arms.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

"Shhh. It's okay."

"Alfred, there's something else I have to tell you."

"What is it babe?"

"I'm moving."

"What?!? Wait just apartments right. You're moving buildings?" You slowly shook your head, "Then neighborhoods," you shook your head again, "Cities? Are you going to LA? Palm Springs?"

"No." you barely whisper.

"Then where??!??"

"Boston. I'm going to Boston." Your breath was heavy.

"Across the country?"

"Yes."

"W-Why Boston?"

"I have family there, and I need to get far away from this city. I can't take it anymore. I need somewhere that has cloudy days, not this eternal land of sun. I need somewhere where it snows."

^^^^^

You stood at the plane terminal and they began calling first class. Alfred was standing across from you.

"So what does this mean for us?" he asked.

"I-I think we should end it. I don't want to have you tied down to a girlfriend across the country. I couldn't do that to you."

"So you don't care at all anymore." His voice was sharp and his face was stormy.

"No! Alfred, No. I love you. I really do. I'm sorry, have to leave and I don't want to drag you down with me. Please, Alfred, look at me." You took his face in your hands, "Please, forget about me, become someone else's hero."

The flight attendant called your row and you turned and left. You barely got to your seat on the plane when the tears came.

After the long flight into Boston you where tired bothphysically and emotionally. The plane had been delayed four times. You stepped off the plane and went to the baggage claim. You eventually found your bag and started walking to get a taxi.

Then you saw him.

Alfred stood with his arms open wide a few yards in front of you. You stood in shock for a moment then dropped your bags and ran into his arms. He picked you up and swung you around and around.

"How are you here?" your voice was choked with emotion.

"I couldn't forget you, I want to be a hero for only you. I bought the first ticket to Boston I could find." You started crying into his shoulder.

"You are my hero."

~~~
I think I'll go to Boston, I think I'll start a new life, I think Ill start it over, Where no one knows my name. I'll get out of California, I'm tired of the weather some snow would be nice.
